Before I start babbling about my hair care ritual, I have to write the “history” of my hair too. It’s gonna be a looooong story.
Since I was in junior high until a couple of years back in college I tend to “damage” my hair by dying it, highlighting, even straightening it! At once! I meant I have dyed and straightened hair! And because all of that I have to use all these expensive hair products from Wella, L’Oreal and Kerastase. Because I have to maintain the color and texture of my hair at the same time! What a waste of $!
And then I started living abroad and don’t have enough $ to keep doing that anymore. Thank God finally I stopped straightening my hair! It’s tiring! So now I only have dyed hair (still can’t stop doing that).
The question here: Are expensive hair products worth it?
Well I used to use these three Kerastase products:

- Shampoo for coarse, hard to be maintained hair.
- Conditioner for strength, smoother and even texture.
- A serum which works the same as a leave-on conditioner for straightened hair.
- Well, that’s what my hairstylist said though.
Anyways after I stopped straightened my hair I stopped using both the shampoo and conditioner. I did still use the serum until stopped using it two months ago.
I’m not gonna bore you with the details of this products. It’s just an OK for my hair. I can’t say that it is not worth it to be bought because the damage of my hair is purely because I did it.

Anyway, then I switched to L’Oreal Elseve for colored hair (red packaging). I can’t seem to find all the pictures over the internet. I used the shampoo, conditioner, and the mask. However, the only one that I like from this product is only the mask. I can feel my hair seems smoother after I used it.
Then I switched to Rejoice shampoo and conditioner and I’m still using it now. And it works OK too. No difference with Kerastase and L’Oreal Elseve! But at least this one is soooooooo much cheaper!
For leave-on conditioner I’m using Dove now. It works OK too as the Kerastase one. The difference is definitely the price!
Since, I don’t straighten my hair anymore now I have a healthier curly hair. In order to have a beautiful curly hair, I use Elasto Curl Cream from Kerastase which is apparently the best
products in Kerastase that I know of. It actually works! It keeps my curly hair in shape!
The reason of sharing this experience is, hair products are not so much different from one to another. They assured you that by using their products your hair is gonna be healthier. However, in my opinion, most of the case with unhealthy hair is because we did it to it! We dyed it, straightened it, etc which harms the hair. We can always do that stuff if we are sure that we can pay for the treatments in salon. Other than that it’s just gonna look pretty once after we did it! Then it becomes worse and worse!
